                Ellen (Behan) Hoge
This looks to be St. Louis in the Fall of 1935.  Baby Mary is in the crib along with her mother Ellen (Behan) Hoge who would be 34 in this photo.  This B & W picture does not show Ellen's red hair.  Ellen Behan was the 4th of 5 children born to James Behan and Bridget (Hewitt) Behan.  She was born on August 13th, 1901 on the family farm on the Columbia Bottoms along the Mississippi River in St. Louis, MO.  She worked for a time as a bookkeeper and met Larry Hoge in 1928.  She and Larry were married on January 2nd, 1930 at 6 a.m. at the Nativity Church in St. Louis.  Her only child was Mary Bridget born on July 5th, 1935.  She worked in the war industry along with her husband at Carter Carburetor during WWII.  When the family moved to Conception Jct., MO in 1947 she worked several jobs until she began working full time in the kitchen at the Catholic Monastery.  Ellen was a devout Catholic, and was often spotted on her evening walk in Conception Jct., walking with her rosary.  She was very active her entire life.  She died at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City on August 24th, 1985.  She is buried along side her husband Larry at St. Columba Cemetery in Conception Jct. in Nodaway County, MO.

                Mary (Hoge) Stock
This picture was taken in St. Louis around 1942.  It was a B&W photo of Mary and her kitten that was "colorized" for the family by Leslie Stock.  Leslie is an amazing artist, and hand-painted the photo over the B&W image.
